Wanda Siemaszkowa Theatre in Rzeszów has operated since 1944. From the very beginning it has been performing both in Rzeszów and in other towns of south eastern Poland. It makes regular appearances on several permanent large stages in the region.
One of the first directors of the Theatre was Wanda Siemaszkowa who was recognised among the most distinguished actresses in the history of the Polish theatre. This stage was also home to another exquisite actor, Zdzisław Kozień, known for his performances in film and TV series, including the part of King Sigismund the Old in the series devoted to Bona Sforza ("Królowa Bona"), and Lieut. Zubek in the criminal TV series "07 zgłoś się".
The Theatre is located in two historic buildings (the administration and the Small Stage are in an old villa which used to be owned by the Holzer family, the Large Stage is in the building formerly housing the Sokół Gymnastic Society).
The Large Stage Room holds 360 seats, and the Small one - 70.
Wanda Siemaszkowa Theatre in Rzeszów annually presents about 300 performances for the total audience of tens of thousands of spectators.
The Theatre repertoire is an eclectic mixture of Polish and foreign classics, but you can also see here contemporary drama. The Theatre cooperates with a number of directors connected with large cultural centres, such as Cracow, Warsaw, Wrocław.
The Theatre also holds one of the oldest Polish Theatre showcases - Rzeszów Theatre Festival as well as the Rzeszów Carnival Festival.
Since 1997 Wanda Siemaszkowa Theatre has been home to Szajna Gallery.
Wanda Siemaszkowa Theatre aims for modern solutions. It is equipped with hearing aids for spectators with special needs. It also has wireless Internet access.
